This Thursday (7 March) will mark the release of the first workout for the CrossFit Open. During this period (5 weeks) there will be some changes to the normal operation of the gym. Please read on so that you are clear on any of these changes and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
– Open gym (4.00-5.15pm) and our regular (5.15-6.15pm) session on Friday will morph into one session starting at 3.30pm and finishing at 6.00pm. Both of our regular Saturday sessions will make way for our second validation session which will start at 7.00am and finish when we’re done. If you are not competing in the open you are welcome to use the gym during these times but you will need to work around whatever is happening in the Open.
– Each of your workouts will need to be officially judged during one of the designated sessions. On Friday afternoon feel free to turn up when ever you are available – you will be allocated to a heat on a first in first served basis. This is not ideal but people finish work at various times on Friday and we’re prepared to suck it up for this session. On Saturday you will be required to be at the gym for a 7.00am start and may have to wait for some time before your workout is validated. In the past we have had people turning up later to avoid the wait for their heat – the problem here is that you will miss the warm-up, brief and tips on strategy and efficiency and it shows zero team spirit. We will not have the time to repeat this information for each person who turns up on their own schedule. Get in the spirit of the event and make a morning of it!
– We need your help. Do not expect to turn up and simply do your workout and go home. Once you complete your workout you will be required to judge or count reps or at the very lease show some support for your fellow athletes. We understand that some of you will have other engagements to get to and it will be up to you as individuals to coordinate with your fellow athletes to ensure that you are in a heat that allows you to meet your obligations.
– Please bring along anyone you would like to watch, cheer or support you. This is a great event and the more energy we have in the gym, the better it is for everyone. Wear stupid clothes, bring pom poms, signs or whatever. If you are bringing children you will need to ensure they are safe at all times. There will be a lot of moving bodies and equipment in the gym during the WOD’s and the last thing we want is an injury.
– Second attempts. First attempts will take priority over second attempts.
– Log your scores. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure that you submit the correct score to the Games website by the cut off time (Monday 10.00am). It is then our job to authorise your correct score or reject it if an error has been made.
– We’re going to do our best. We will be as flexible as possible with your individual circumstances and will do our best to see you get ample opportunity to submit a score that reflects your best effort but please be aware that the Open adds a lot of extra work load onto us (the trainers). Expect us to take your effort as seriously as you do – if you didn’t turn up for validation because you simply couldn’t be bothered or were too hung over or whatever, then there will be no sympathy.
– Aside from all the rules and regulations above, this is a great time of year that we very much look forward to. Let’s get together as a team and help each other realise whatever personal goals you have set for yourselves during this event.
