I recently asked a few of our gym members who have made improvements to their body composition to answer a few questions. The idea behind this series is to highlight the stories of people with normal jobs and lives who have implemented the nutritional advice that we provide to great success. We hope that you will be inspired by these stories toward your own successes, and as always we are there to help with all aspects of your health and fitness journey.
The second person in the series is Sirrka Luke.
– Please detail a bit about yourself: My name is Sirkka Luke, female, 35 years, 69 kg, 164cm, store manager.
– How long have you been training with Coastal CrossFit? I started CrossFit in January 2013.
– What prompted you to make some changes to your nutrition? After training for a couple of months I didn’t notice any changes (I did get stronger but didn’t lose any weight) and I realised it was not because of my training but what I was eating. I wanted to lose weight and get stronger.
– How long has it been since you implemented these changes? 3 weeks.
– What results have you seen in this time? I lost 3 kilo’s and can now do 2 pull ups.
– What do you think were the major draw backs in your nutrition and what changes do you think have been most positive? I cut out sugar, processed foods, alcohol and diet coke. I am trying to eat protein/carbs/fat at every meal. My major down fall in my previous diet would be diet soft drinks and processed foods (biscuits, crackers). Also I am now drinking lots of water and only 2 cups of tea (without sugar) per day.
– Do you see yourself being able to sustain or even improve upon your achievements? I am positive I can keep up with this diet/life style. I am never hungry but sometimes still crave sweet foods. If I do I just eat some yogurt or drink a glass of milk. I love feeling stronger and am happy with my weight loss so far.
– Is there anything else that you thing would be of help to someone reading this? My advice is to just give it a go!! Also if you have any social events make sure you are prepared, it’s very hard to say no to all the cakes/biscuits/wine if you are hungry. You will see results after a week or two and you will feel much better. It’s worth it!!
Sirkka has seen great results from her nutritional changes in a very short time and the changes in her appearance are much more apparent than 3kg of weight loss would suggest. As you can see by her answers, there was nothing revolutionary about the advice we gave her – cut out the sugar and processed foods and the results have been impressive. Great work!
