The Weekend Wrap-up

SC Throwdown: We had one team compete in the advanced division for the “Sunshine Coast Throw Down” over the weekend which was comprised of Steve K, Rudy, Zac (first time competitor), Renee, Nat & Marie. Despite the miserable conditions everyone in our team did their very best and we all left the weekend feeling motivated to train harder and to hit more competitions in the future. A special mention of Zac who was competing for the first time and although only training CrossFit for the last couple of months was thrown into the deep end by competing in the advance division.

A huge thank you to all of the crew who came to support over the two days, especially Kaz for her well organised Team Management. We can not overstate how much it means to us to see people take time out of their weekend to come down and give us a cheer. Thanks also to CrossFit Logic crew for sharing their setup, their support and photography.

This is just the start of the competition season so FIRE UP!!! We have a couple of teams competing at CrossFit Desire comp at the end of the month and would love to get some more support together for this one day event. Please remember that most of the competitions these days have divisions for beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes, so the “I’m not fit enough” excuse doesn’t wash anymore.
“Battle of the Barbell” hosted by CrossFit Coolum Beach is scheduled for the 10th August. We are currently creating teams for beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions. Join in the fun and add your name to the list ASAP. All team nomination must be completed by this Tuesday 12:00pm.

QWA League Round 3: On Sunday I headed down to Zilmere to compete in the Queensland Weightlifting Association League Round 3 in the Under 69kg category.  I planned to use this event as a bit of a test run to see what sort of numbers that I want to hit at Nationals in just under 2 weeks.

I hit 85kg and 109kg for the Snatch and C&J at the State Championships a few weeks back and after reviewing the footage I knew I had more, so the plan was to increase on those lifts at this meet. The goal for this competition was to hit my final lifts from the State Championships in my second attempts, so that I could have a go at setting some new competition PR’s.
I am generally pretty happy if I can increase my snatch by 1kg and my C&J by 2kg every time I compete and this is exactly what I did. I opened the Snatch with an easy 82kg and followed with a narrowly missed 85kg and finished with another easy lift at 86kg. Normally I wouldn’t have gone up after missing a lift but I knew that it wasn’t a weight issue and a little bit more commitment and aggression would get me through. Thankfully I was right.
I opened the C&J with an easy 105kg, then went up to my previous competition PR of 109kg before finishing with a new competition PR of 111kg.
I recently made a change to my start position in the Clean and they felt really good on the day. My Jerks however are my least consistent lift and I was lucky to get 2 out of 3 white lights for my 109kg lift, where I caught the bar with bent elbows but was able to hold the load without pressing it out. Lucky there is no video ref in weightlifting.

Overall, I am very happy with my results after such a short time of pure weightlifting training and feel much more confident to have a red hot go at nationals.  A special thanks to Nick for coming along to cheer me on and for the video footage.
