Digital Age

Did you know that the camera on your phone can be used for more than selfies! The use of video review is something that coaches utilise the world over to benefit the performance of school age children through to professional athletes.
Here’s a simple tip that can turn your phone into a powerful training aid.

Next time you’re doing a strength/skill based workout – ask the person you are partnered with for the session to record some of your efforts on your phone. The benefits of this are many:
– The fact that a single lift/movement is now captured on your phone means you can review it as many times as you like can help you identify and understand any faults in your performance.
– By regularly filming your efforts you begin to accumulate a database of your (hopefully) improving performance. This can be a great motivator in itself.
– You’ll be surprised at the accountability that performing in front of the camera provides. Knowing that your performance is up for review will make you try harder.
– The footage can be passed on to someone (your coaches) either in person or digitally via email, facebook, instagram etc. for later review if they were not present at the time of the performance.
– The footage can be manipulated (cut, put on repeat, played in slow motion, frozen etc.) to help identify faults that even the best coaches might miss in real time.

Even better, there is an app for the iPhone/iPad called Coaches Eye which does all of the above and more for about $6.00 on iTunes. Now get to it!
