Weekend Competition Recap

Over the weekend we had a bunch of people competing in various events.

First up was CrossFit Liftoff which is technically still going, (we have until Tuesday morning to submit) where athletes were challenged with a max snatch, a max clean and jerk and then a 12 minute amrap of 3 power snatch (61/47kg), 6 clean and jerk (61/47kg), 9 C2B pull-ups and 54 double-unders. While we only had a few athletes involved in this challenge a few of them set new pb’s in their lifts with Renee hitting a 72.5kg Snatch and Luka hitting a 115kg Snatch. Regardless of overall placing, seeing these athletes hitting new personal bests made the challenge all the more worthwhile.

Also on Saturday young Nat competed in the QLD All Schools Weightlifting Championship where she not only beat her nearest competition by 40kg but she also set a new record for the weightlifting Total of 103kg (under 15 years, 69kg division)! Nat has been quietly making solid progress with her weightlifting for a while now and we are excited to see where she can take it.
Also a huge thank you to Renee for taking time out of her weekend to coach Nat. All accounts (mostly from Renee) are that she did a very good job as coach!

Last but not least we had a tribe of people head down to CrossFit Speed in Northlakes to compete in “Conquer the Beast”. It was great to see teams comprised of athletes with a wide range of abilities stepping up and having a go and as well as the level of support and camaraderie that everyone showed for each other throughout the day. This makes up very proud of our gym and really helps to strengthen our community.
Of course well done goes out to everyone but especially to Nikki who received an encouragement award for completing 24 inch box jumps for the first time and Renee and Luka for taking first place in the Beast division.

Thanks to everyone who participated or showed support for the various competitions over the weekend. Not only is great to see your own personal achievements but it’s also great for the wider community in the example that it sets. Well done!

Chris and Marie.
